(Washington, DC — Todd Zwillich, Transportation Nation) House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is defending a transportation project in her home district, saying it would help spur the renewable energy industry in the U.S.
Pelosi put the $500,000 earmark in an upcoming transportation spending bill, saying the money would fund two solar-powered ferries from San Francisco to Berkeley, across the Bay.
The project fell under criticism Tuesday from Citizens Against Government Waste, an anti-earmarking group in Washington. “In this instance, going green wastes the taxpayers’ greenbacks,” the group said in a statement
Pelosi told Transportation Nation this week that the project is an example of home-grown renewable energy. “We just don’t want it made in China,” she said.
The speaker also waxed poetic about the ferry’s potential to push green energy ahead in the U.S. She told us that the earmark was meant “to reach for the sun, rather than going into the middle of the Earth for a source of energy. And we think that would be a good model for the nation.” Listen:

I have an idea…………why doesn’t the ferry company pay for their OWN improvements? WHY do the taxpayers HAVE to pay for all the individual improvements for the “private” industry?

Hey, why don’t all of you stop attacking the person (Pelosi in this case, we all know she is an easy target) and attack the idea. When asked for data that her two solar-powered ferries project will create jobs she says “We think that our energy bill in TOTAL will be millions of new jobs.” Maybe, but what about the two solar-powered ferries?
Listening to this clip all I could hear and envision is another idea that has the potential to do great things for all concerning but, never reaches potential because of the gridlock.

Why didn’t the interviewer point out the facts. Every place on earth that has mandated green jobs has exponentially lost real jobs.
Also how are we going to produce solar power here without the rare minerals necessary for their production. China has secured over 90% of world supply.
This is a perfect example of why Pelosi’s state is on the brink of bankruptcy. We Americans are setting on the side lines allowing these morons to run our country. Many of them have never made a payroll or know how our country REALLY works. Common sense has to become our main adjective again. If government doesn’t know how to live within its own means than we are going to fail as a country.
Pelosi could downsize her 1/4 million per year office back to what she had and fund this thing in a few years on her own.
